Kersey Valley Segway Tours!

Our events just keep getting bigger and better folks! When I took my first zip line tour in Belize in 2005 I also was introduced to Segways. I fell in love with both events and dreamed of one day offering such amazing attractions back home in High Point NC. We were able to bring the zip line dream to life in the fall of 2010 and we are about to open one of the only off road Authorized Segway Tours in the country.

We will have a fleet of X2 Segways that are designed to take you off road over the hills and through the woods. We are excited to offer this amazing experience to all our loyal fans. We will be having a Segway Test Drive area during Spookywoods and Maize Adventure to give you a 20 minute test drive. The real fun happens when you take the off road tour for a 1.5 hour experience with a guide over our 55 acre farm.

Now if your too scared to fly on the zip line you can stay grounded and follow the zip line path on our Segway Tour.

We will be opening up for tours in March 2011 after we get our guides and staff certified by Segway.

One of the most stressful things about running our nc zip line has been managing the influx of business during our Halloween Special. Some of you may know first hand of what I'm talking about if you attend and we were overbooked. I apologize again if you were one of those customers. However, we have learned what we needed to take control of our reservations. After months of searching for the perfect solution we have a new reservation in place to handle our zipline bookings. With this new system we have full control over coupon promos and being able to move reservations on the calendar. Our customers are now better informed with email confirmations as well as our flight captains when tours are booked.

We are excited to now be ready for growth and the upcoming high season, we hope to see you on our North Carolina Zip Line soon.

Kersey Valley, Inc. - NOW YEAR ROUND!

Kersey Valley, Inc. was started in October 1985 when I was just 15 years old. That simple haunted house was the start of it all. Over the past 25 years our little farm house haunt has evolved into NC's most recognized haunted attration, Sookywoods featuring a wide variety of events such as corn maze, the Maize Adventure with a Gem Dig, Pumpkin Patch, Cow Trains, Tram Rides and a Giant Jumping Pillow as well as a great Picnic Area with a gigantic do-it-yourself grill station. In 2010 we built one of the largest zip line tours in the country across our farm. It turned out not just elaborate with 14 zip line routes but it also has a number of unique characteristics. Our NC zip line is themed in aviation, featuring 10 engineered sky towers, each named after a famous city airport , e.g. ATLANTA (ATL) or ZURICH (ZRH). This is a closed course where you never touch the ground once you take off. We even added a Flight School where you learn the basics by watching a video. Zip lining North Carolina is our aim.

Working with the local county office our event farm has recently received the classification ‘AG recreation with conditions’. As it is gaining in popularity, there is a need to keep operating on a year round basis, thus allowing for non-stop zip lining.

The final hurdle to reach this goal was a public hearing in the fall of 2010. It passed with the county planning board’s approval as well as all our neighbors’ blessing. It was a huge relief to finally hear the word "APPROVED".

Of course, we have to comply with all the relevant commercial codes, such as having available code-conform toilet facilities. The required structure will be multi-functional and will include such things as a kitchen and convenience area. By early summer 2011, all will be operational

No doubt, visitors will appreciate conveniencies such as climate controlled, modern bathrooms with baby changing stations.

Maize Adventure Gets Planted

Our corn maze Maize Adventure was planted July 2nd, right on time as planned. Now we just need some rain, however the forecast is HEAT WAVE for the next week. Looks like we will need to install our irrigation system.

This year the design of the maze are farm animals, there is a game called FSI. Farm Scene Investigation is a game to figure out which farm animal was caught trying to commit a crime and with what farm tool. Can you save the farmer?

Kersey Valley Zip Line

We are adding a all new NC zip line attraction that will be year round Kersey Valley Zip Line. The many weeks of design and planning for one of the largest zipline tours in the Mid Atlantic has finally started construction. The tour will take you across 15 Sky Towers and 1.5 miles of zip line cable. We will have this open as a side attraction during Spookywoods at night. The flight path will take you high above the corn maze and through our laser light effects. This will be a first of its kind for the haunt industry to be able to fly through a haunted attraction. Reservations are required for this very limited Halloween Zip Line, so get your tickets early by calling 336-431-1700.

You can't miss the massive Launch Tower that will be in the midway reaching a height of over 60 feet. The Morbid Curiosity side attraction has now be replaced as our new Flight School for the zip line training. This will be a total sensory experience itself to make training not only fun but add value to the experience of the zip line tour.

We are shooting for opening this all new North Carolina zip line September 4th along with the Maize Adventure corn maze. We hope to see you here soon, come fly with us!

New Scares for 2010

We are fresh back from the National Halloween Haunt Show. We are so excited about the new props and massive scares we purchased. The build crew is hard at work planning and starting to build the new sets that will scare the crap of you. The new trend is scares that are large enough to scare groups of people at once, let me tell you we got one huge group scare for you this year! No one is safe or can hide from this massive scare.

Construction has begun on our new road entrance to the farm. This will be off of Cecil Farm Rd that allows entry from the back of the farm to our new parking lot. Our overflow parking lot is up for sale and we had to make a new parking area to keep up with the demand.

Thanks to all our loyal fans that allow us to have the best job in the world, to have over 50,000 fans Lost Laughing and Loving it in the corn maze to screaming their heads off at Spookywoods to watching our animated Christmas lights awe the kids at Kersey Valley Christmas.

The longest season in our history finally comes to an end with the closing of Kersey Valley Christmas on Dec 23rd 2009. Another year of many great memories for the staff and Donna and myself. What an amazing year with our second time on the Travel Channel and this time as part of America Haunts. The best season ever in our 24 year hisory with record attendance for all three of our events was the most rewarding as well. 2010 marks our 25th year anniversary, it's hard to believe I have been doing this for so many years.

We have big plans to expand our Maize Adventure with another great family activity with a mini golf course themed to match our Mining/Ghost town look in the planning phases already. There are many ideas to improve our events on the drawing board and we are excited to see the events grow even more next year.

Now Donna and I take a break with a couple of months vacation before we start working on our events again, I wish all our loyal fans a Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you on the farm in 2010 for even bigger and better events!

Kersey Valley Christmas - Opens!

Before we even finished packing away Spookywoods we opened Kersey Valley Christmas! The hard work and determination looks to have paid off, we opened to a record breaking first night!

What a difference from a year ago we were bored on opening night in 2008, but not this year. We were so busy none of the staff had time to even use the bathroom or eat dinner!

I owe a huge thanks to all that helped turn our Farm from Scary to Merry in such a short time frame. I have an amazing crew of dedicated people that make our company successful. Thanks to my wife Donna, Thom Rover, Tony Forest, Kevin Burger, Steve Lee, Irene Wohlgemuth, Kathy Justice, Darrel Justice, Donnie Willard, David Hughes, Nathan Boyd, Alan and Seth. The light show is amazing due to Kale Hamel that has been flying in from Kansas each year to program the lights to music for hours on end! Occasions Floral with the fastest ever decorating team that turned Santa's workshop into an amazing place to hang out and build a wreath and see Santa!

Get lost for a good cause

HIGH POINT – Kersey Valley Inc. wants you to get lost – for the benefit of helping stray animals in the community, that is.

Maize Adventure, a 10-acre corn maze at Kersey Valley with more than four miles of twisting paths, will hold its grand opening 1 to 6 p.m. today. General admission is $10 per ticket, and a portion of the season’s ticket sales will go to the Guilford County Animal Shelter.

The annual fall attraction is redesigned each year with a different theme, this year’s theme being, “Noah Saves the Animals.”

Tony Wohlgemuth, president of Kersey Valley Inc., said the theme was chosen to bring awareness to stray pets in the community and to provide funding for the shelter.

“The theme ‘Noah Saves the Animals’ conveys the message pretty well,” Wohlgemuth said.

The maze takes about an hour to complete, he said, and pets on a leash are invited as well. Other attractions include a pumpkin patch, gem dig and fossil dig.

Marsha Williams, executive director of the Guilford County Animal Shelter, said the proceeds from Kersey Valley would be used to improve the shelter’s trauma center, where badly injured animals are sent to recuperate.

“We are an open door shelter, and we have more animals than any organization in Guilford County,” Williams said. “There are so many animals that come in that, if they only had a little bit of medical attention, they would make the perfect pet.”

Wohlgemuth said supporting stray animals became important to him after he visited the shelter in search of a pet that had gone missing.

“I was just in awe of how many animals were up for adoption,” he said. “The first thing I asked them was, ‘What can I do to bring more awareness to your cause?’ I was just touched by what they do.”

Wohlgemuth didn’t find his previous pet, but he adopted a puppy in its place.

The maze also will sponsor an Amazing Pet Adventure on Sept. 26 where various animal rescue groups from the Triad will display pets available for adoption.

The corn maze was cut out this past Saturday by www.mazeplay.com. The corn is tall and lush green! We have not had to irrigate the corn this year yet. However, we have our irrigation pump and pipes installed and ready to go if we need to make it rain.

New Ghost Hunters Experience Attraction for 2009!

We have added a All New Attraction for the 2009 season!

The Ghost Hunters Experience will get you up close and personal with the other side. Since the Winston Salem Paranormal Society has been doing research on our property for a few years now and proved we have ghosts we have decided to bring this experience to all our fans as well. This must be purchased as a combo ticket due to logistics to get the guest deep into the farm with our tram ride.

This ticket includes the Spookywoods Haunted Attractions plus the Ghost Hunters Experience. You will enter the house first and once on the Tram Ride you will be dropped off deep in the dense woods at the back of the farm with your Ghost Hunter Guide. Once you return from the Ghost Hunters Experience you will board the Tram again and continue your Spookywoods Haunted Attraction ticket. No cameras, lighters, cell phones or flashlights allowed on the experience.

This is a partly guided tour into dense woods, due to the nature of this terrain proper shoes and clothing is required. Unfortunately this is not wheel chair accessible. Our other haunted attractions are accessible by wheelchair. You enter the same queue line as the ticket for the haunt.

This combo ticket can be purchased as a General Admission or a VIP ticket. Are you up for the challenge?

Cow Train at Maize Adventure

We took delivery of our newest attraction at the Maize Adventure corn maze this week. The "Cow Train" and a Kawasaki Mule. Kersey Valley Christmas

We started a new event on our farm in 2008 for Christmas. Little did we know the the economy would go into a nose dive just as we were trying to start a new business venture. Our main focus was to sell Christmas trees and we got caught holding a huge inventory of trees due to low sales. The silver lining in that story was we gave away close to 600 Premium Fraser Fir trees to anyone that wanted one. That landed us as a featured story on every local TV news channel and local papers. The value of this news coverage was priceless and we hope people remember us this season. This year we have redesigned our business plan and tree sales is not the focus. We will have a stock of only several hundred instead of thousands of trees this time around.

Our new focus is to market to church youth groups our Christmas Story Hayride. We will also have our animated 35ft tall fire breathing Christmas Tree with 60,000 led lights themed to music as a feature. The Construction Begins

We dusted off our saws and drills and we have started building the new Spookywoods show this week. The laser tunnel is gone and we are making a large set to go along with our Castel theme in Spookywoods. This part of the maze was a simple area until this year. Each year we add more detail and the front of the maze is finally getting an awesome make over.

The Midway area has been under contruction for several months already and a new Photo Op shop has taken shape next to the Last Ride.

We are moving to a new POS system for onsite and online ticketing that will improve our technology. Be on the look out for online ticket sales early to catch the best deals.

OK. I did it. I felt I owed it to our NC Travel Guide Blog readers. My wife and I went to Spookywoods at Kersey Valley Farms, the award-wining haunted attraction near High Point and Archdale, North Carolina. The owner, Tony Wohlgemuth, was there to greet us. Great guy. He has created a spectacular special effects extravaganza that places his spellbinding haunted venue in the top ten in the entire country. And now I know why. Take your kids and go — not the young ones, however. It’s intense. But fun. The costumes and Hollywood-style makeup are well done. This alone is worth the price of admission. Tony and his band of spookmeisters have created an elaborate 55 acre setting replete with creepy old outbuildings, dark foreboding woods, and a dizzy haunted maze filled at every turn with lifelike ghouls, creatures and demented freaks. Yike.

Featured on the homepage of US Airways Magazine in their "All Over the Map" section, and in the print edition in airplanes across the country, the Haunted House Association has a large feature entitled, "The 13 Best Haunts for Halloween: Happy Haunting".

In the article, which you'll see pasted below along with the link, they outline all of our 13 haunts and include some great, dramatic photos on each one. As the Halloween season approaches Travel Channel is preparing for a tremendously spooky month of programming scheduled to scare and delight all month long. They are currently planning to repeat episodes "America's Scariest Halloween Attractions" featuring Kersey Valley Spookywoods on the Travel Channel. Most of the segments about each venue will also be featured on their website and Video On Demand in September and October 2008.

On October 10th at 8 PM EST, they are also planning to braodcast "Most Haunted Live" from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. For seven historic hours, Yvette Fielding and the rest of the Most Haunted team will investigate some of Gettysburg's most important landmarks in an unprecedented LIVE television event.

First Night Open 2008

Spookywoods finally was able to open for the 2008 season on Saturday September 27th.

Since the tropical storm delayed our team from getting the haunted corn field ready with all the pnematic scares and some other sets to their final stage I decided to not validate the bar codes on all the tickets sold for this night and I allowed all the customers that came this first night to go through as many times as they wanted until midnight.

For the first night oepn the attendance was up and the new Ghost Town Midway shops did well. As I expected once we had a well designed retail area for the T-Shirts the sales would increase and the first night was a positive indicator that we will sell tons of T-Shirts by Halloween. The Last Ride Simulator also did well once people understood what it was. Jonathan Frost's Chilling Magic Show was also well received and will surely sell out as the crowds increase in October.

By the time we open back up on Thursday next week the haunted corn field and the rest of the show will be 100% ready to go.

Kersey Valley Spookywoods haunted attraction of North Carolina has been a premier Halloween attraction for over 23 years, always staying on the cutting edge of the haunt industry. Ranked as one of the top ten haunted attractions in the US, they boasted a throughput of nearly 45,000 customers in 2007. Like any top player in the industry, Spookywoods spends most of its time searching for new ways to terrify its loyal patrons.

For the fall of 2008, the owners have decided to recreate the entire attraction from the ground up. This revolution manifested itself in new scares, new costumes, and the radical new idea of incorporating a magic show into their attraction.

"We are constantly looking for new ways to entertain our customers" says Donna Wohlgemuth, owner of Spookywoods. "2008 has been a huge year in the Halloween industry. We have remade almost every part of our attraction to make sure we keep providing the best and newest scares to our customers."

One of the biggest changes to occur for the 2008 was the incorporation of the magic show. "We believe magic is going to become the next big thing in the industry" states Donna. "It is a natural transition as horror depends on the unknown, and magic is an art based on mystery."

With the idea on the table to make a magic show available to its patrons, Spookywoods contacted Jonathan Frost, owner of Chilling Magic. Chilling Magic is one of the premier horror magic shows in the world today. Jonathan Frost is a magician who has devoted over half of his life to magic. He has performed in theme parks, restaurants, and other haunted attractions including Goatman Hollow of Maryland and The Haunted Mansion of NY.

The two spoke enthusiastically about the prospect of merging the two attractions. Eight months later, Jonathan and his manager were 630 miles from their home town of Tillson, NY and settling in for a seven week run.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for both of us" says Mr. Frost. "We are happy to be offering a completely new form of entertainment to Spookywoods, and we are excided about making ourselves part of the main stream of horror entertainment."

The main show to be performed at Spookywoods will involve complex illusions, stunning hypnosis and a daring escape act. This show is recommended for adults only. Performances will be at 8:30 and 10:30 PM each night the attraction is open at the cost of $10 in addition to regular admittance to the show. Group discounts will be offered.

For children and families, a youth friendly version of the show will be offered with Kersey Valley's daytime attractions. These will be presented at 2:00 and 4:00 Saturdays and Sundays.

Ghost Hunters Report to Winston Salem Journal

The Winston Salem Paranormal Society reported in an artical today in the Winston Salem Journal the following about Spookywoods.

Some of their most productive investigations have been on the battleship North Carolina in Wilmington and at Spookywoods, a Halloween trail in High Point. The group was skeptical about investigating Spookywoods, but found evidence to convince them that it's really haunted.

"You think it's not going to be haunted, they're just trying to get some business," Foskey said. "We went out there and we got some activity. We actually got a couple of things thrown at us one night. Some objects came out of a room that nobody was in, and we've had some EVPs that told us to get out."

We planted the field today and this evening we got a nice rain storm. The clock is ticking now towards our opening day August 30th for our daytime events!

We chose to plant the corn this year a little later than last year since we invested in an irrigation system to get water on the field. By planting later the corn should have a better chance to stay green into October.

Ghost Hunters Return to Spookywoods

Below is the report from the Ghost Hunting Team that was researching the grounds again this past weekend.

We had people investigate towards the field where the old truck prop is & in the house as usual. I don't think that everyone has reviewed all of their recordings or photos yet, but we do have some interesting stuff that has been found so far.

We have 2 possible evp's that were caught out near the truck. One sounds like a drum beating followed shortly by what sounds like a woman humming a tune. The other one has been reviewed & sounds like a chant in another language which has been noted as sounding like an indian chant by several different people. Several members experienced seeing black shadows in the woods & footsteps that were not anyone in the group.

We had a psychic/medium come out early while it was still daylight. He was not told anything about this location & was unaware that it even existed. Upon arrival as he was walking up to the house, he said there is something definitely haunting the house. We took him upstairs to see what he felt. He started with telling us that as he was coming up the stairs he heard music. We asked what kind of music & he said kind of like bluegrass. As we kept trying to pry him for information, we kept asking him to be more specific & finally he said a fiddle. He told us what area that he passed away in which is usually the area we have the most activity from upstairs. He also mentioned that he felt like the spirit was the type to like to throw objects. If you could remember on our first visit, we had 3 objects thrown at us, a tube of makeup, a clothespin & a necklace.

This of course was amazing to hear from someone who had never heard the stories or even heard of the Spookywoods attraction. He believes that he is the only spirit in the house, but he does travel from upstairs to downstairs. He felt the presence of a farmer out in the field area, which he says likes to travel the whole grounds outside. Several members actually felt his energy as he seemed to be s tanding in one spot posing. He also mentioned that years ago, in the area where the evp's were caught, there used to be a witch's coven that used to practice rituals on the property. He did pick up on the indian aspect of the land as well. He said it was more towards where the creekbed lies on the backside of the fields/woods.

Once again, I think it is safe to say that you guys have a haunting, but it is definitely nothing to worry about. It seems to be playful like it wants to let you know that it is there from time to time. Some of it is what we call residual where it justs keeps repeating the same pattern over & over again no matter what is going on around it.

BY JIMMY TOMLIN ENTERPRISE STAFF WRITER TRIAD – If ghosts exist, they probably love nights like Feb. 8, 2008.The air was cold and damp, not only outside, but also in the small, unheated house at Spookywoods, a popular haunted house attraction in High Point that has a unique twist – a real ghost story.On this particular night, five members of the Winston-Salem Paranormal Society had come to Spookywoods in quest of “The Fiddler,” a mild-mannered spirit believed by some to inhabit the upstairs rooms of the old, creepy-looking house on Kersey Valley Road.During a visit in early December, group members say The Fiddler scratched one investigator’s back twice – hard enough to leave red marks – and threw several small objects at the investigators.“Sometimes during an investigation, if the spirit is not responding, you want to taunt it and make it a little mad,” says Sarah Sherman, a 30-year-old Thomasville woman who co-founded the paranormal investigation group.“So one of our members (John MacGowan, the same member who was scratched) was taunting it – calling it a coward and stuff like that – when all of a sudden a tube of makeup came flying out of the other room and landed at his feet.”That was followed a few minutes later by a clothespin and a cross pendant.“It was pretty weird,” Sherman says in an understatement.So on the group’s return visit, the five paranormal investigators – all women this time, accompanied by a curious, not-altogether-intrepid reporter – eagerly anticipated an encore performance by The Fiddler.And, if their story is to be believed, he did not disappoint.**** Pity paranormal investigators, a foolhardy lot who explore the likes of spooky houses, abandoned hospitals and eerie boneyards in their attempts to prove, or in some cases disprove, the existence of ghosts.Theirs is a world of surreal evidence – mysterious noises, unexplained lights, foggy apparitions, muted voices that can only be heard on high-tech recorders, spine-tingling chills, contact with unseen forces and, yes, the occasional flying tube of makeup.It can be terrifying work for the faintof- heart, compounded by the fact that it’s typically done in the darkness – an environment that tends to stimulate one’s imagination, not to mention give ghosts more hiding places – and yet, they can’t seem to give it up.“You get this adrenaline rush, and it’s kind of addictive,” explains Sherman, who works in a local medical office. “You just want answers so bad that you keep coming back. And the more experience you have, the less scared you get.”Many get involved in paranormal pursuits after having experiences they can’t explain. That was the case for Sherman’s co-founder, Tonya Denny of Winston-Salem – who says she had relatives living in haunted houses – and for Sherman, who claims to have had an encounter with her deceased grandfather when she was about 7. Sherman says she later lived in a house in Thomasville that she believes was haunted.Such experiences can trigger a desire to find – and, more importantly, to document – the truth.“What we try to do is get documented evidence, something that proves what we’re feeling or experiencing is real,” Denny says. “I believe myself that there’s something there, but I want to find something that will prove it.”Paranormal investigations, then, include such tools as 35mm cameras, video cameras equipped with infrared night vision, audio recorders (digital and tape), digital thermometers, and equipment to detect electromagnetic fields.“If there’s something paranormal there, the theory is that it gives off EMFs (electromagnetic fields),” Sherman explains.“The more the detector lights up, the more EMFs it’s giving off. We have to make sure there’s no electricity in the area that may be causing any spikes, because things like lights and appliances can cause EMFs to rise.”The investigators get baseline readings – of EMF levels and temperatures – when they arrive, then make note of any changes in those levels during the course of the investigation. According to Sherman, a rise in EMF levels or a significant drop in temperature – sometimes as much as 20 degrees – could indicate the presence of a spirit.They also use high-tech recorders to record what’s known as an electronic voice phenomenon, or EVP, a voice that’s not heard by human ears but mysteriously can be heard on the recorder. For example, when Sherman went with a group investigating an old battlefield believed to be haunted, one of the investigators – believing they might encounter the spirit of a fallen soldier – asked, “Are you hurt or wounded?” There was no reply, Sherman says, but when they played the recording later, they heard a man’s voice answer the question softly, “I want to go home.”The group didn’t record any EVPs at Spookywoods, but they do believe The Fiddler paid them a visit.**** The paranormal investigators are not the first to report an encounter with The Fiddler, but they are the first to investigate his existence.According to Spookywoods owner Tony Wohlgemuth, the old house – built in the 1930s – was a boarding house, and The Fiddler was one of its occupants. A woman who once lived in the house told Wohlgemuth the man – nicknamed The Fiddler because he entertained housemates with his violin – died in his sleep in an upstairs bedroom. We are hard at work making a brand new product for the Haunt Industry. Our resident artists, have come up with a Full Body Suit costume that is incredible. There is nothing like this on the market today for haunted attractions. This suit turns you actor into an animated walking corpse instantly.

The new website is under contruction now, so there is not much to see. However, we will have a booth at the National Halloween and Party Show in Las Vegas this coming March. Another Record Breaking Year - 2007

The 2007 season was incredible to say the least! The local news coverage and the national press we got this year was amazing. We had so many customers from out of state we had to post directions from the airport.

The staff was wonderfull, the only problem was we needed more relief actors since we were open for two more hours on the busy nights due to the increase in bussiness than we planned on. The timed tickets for 15 minute Reservations was a great success, in fact we sold out the last two Saturday's before Halloween. For 2008 I plan on making the General Admission a timed 1 hour ticket, this will make Spookywoods a 100% timed ticket attraction.

We are already designing the 2008 show to handle a constant flow of people without gaps in the groups. This will require some redesign of the mazes in Spookywoods, but I'm confident this is the answer to the problem with long waits in line. The timed ticketing along with a constant flow of guest through the attraction will allow us to continue to grow our attraction to handle the thousands of people that want to see Spookywoods nightly.

When Delt Lemons Make Lemonade

Mother Nature is a tough cookie when it comes to trying to grow corn in the worst drought NC has seen since 1966! The Maize Adventure corn maze had to be replanted last Wednesday the 22nd of August. The lack of rain has caused the corn to lay down in many places. So, we had to replant and now we are brining in 20,000 gallons of water per night to irrigate the corn.

Since we Open this Saturday the Maize Adventure, Gem and Fossil Dig attrations we decided to turn the Maize Adventure into a Treasure Hunt to add to the Challenge since the corn is not very high. This will make the game much more fun!

Build Crew Addition - Nate Mitchel

Nate Mitchell, the owner of Night Mare on 901 in SC decided to no longer run his haunted attraction after many years due to the increase in attendance he could not remain at the current location. Nate decided to come work for Spookywoods and bring all his amazing talent and knowlege to our build crew. Nate has been put in charge of all our set drawings the build crew uses to create the new sets, those are amazing by the way. He also has been put in charge of the small farm house as his personal project to design and build out. The house which is the start to Spookywoods is based off the movie SAW.

You will be blown away at the level of detail he has desinged into this house! Prepare to be very impressed and I have to say this tops anything we have every done in the house in 22 years.

Simply put, Spookywoods continues to be NC's Ultimate Haunted Attraction!

The Fight Against Mother Nature

The maze was the best looking corn our desinger from Idaho had seen in the entire country back on July 30th. Only 4 weeks later and the lack of rain for over a month has taken its toll on the corn. We are now irrigating the corn with the help from several local famers and we also have purchased thousands of dollars worth of equipment to get water on the corn. Since Highway 311 bypass is under contruction just outside our farm, they had to drain the lake we could have used for irrigation. With the lake gone for up to 3 years while the road is being built we have had to truck in water by the tanker load. I want to thank Davis Water service for their generous lending of a 9,000 gallon tanker truck to use as storage. They are trucking in 13,000 gallons per day for us to irrigate on a nightly basis. This is a very expensive solution, but we are doing all we can to save the maze. The local farmers told me they have not seen a drought this bad since 1966!

Mother nature is hard to beat, but the crew at Kersey Valley is very determined to give her one hell of a fight!

Maize Adventure - Cut Out

The Maize Adventure Corn Maze was cut out last Saturday Night. The high technology used allows us to cut the 10 acrea maze out in only 6 hours. This years maze is a Pirate ship with 3.3 miles of pathways.

This year we have a new smaller maze also called the ABC maze. Inside this maze there are all the letters of the alphabet that school groups have to find and place on a board back in the picnic area. Combining fun with learning is the best teacher!

Spookywoods voted a top 13 Haunted Attraction in America by Haunt World Magazine in July's issue.

This is a impressive award that is proof the team at Spookywoods is amazing. Our team of creative artists and build crew deserve most the credit. There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes that the public does not see. The reservation systems for instance is months of work by David Rundberg to design a POS reservation database. The building of a new call center and data network to handle the calls has been a huge project this year not only in expense but time. What other haunted attraction have you seen that uses state of the art technology like touch screen monitors, gigabit networks, VOIP phone system and bar code printers. To think back that Spookywoods started with a shoe box as a cash register in 1985 and how far we have evolved is mind blowing.

Donna and I work year round to keep managing this incredible business we love so much and an award like this makes it all worth it!

Starting this year all of our advanced ticket sells will be a 15 minute Reservation Ticket over the phone. This will allow us to control the reservation system better.

Reservations will be sold in blocks of 15 minutes starting at 8PM. We have invested in custom developed software using touch screen technology and a new building just to handle phone sales for the call load we are expecting. Maize Adventure Gets Planted!

The past few days of hard work has paid off preparing the field and we are now ready to plant the corn. We had to build up a burm to devert water across the field. This should put a stop to all the top soil being washed away in heavy rains.

The corn seed is going in the ground today! The clock is ticking to our September 1st Grand Opening.

I’m going to say it now that 2007 is the year that will blow away our die hard Spookywoods Fans. We tore Spookywoods down to the ground in February and rebuilt the most detailed and most expensive haunted attraction we have ever attempted in 23 years of running this massive project. Just the Castle entrance took over 300 man hours and $15,000 dollars to create. Once inside the Spookywoods expect to see all new sets that are so detailed you have to go through again just to see it all.

I just read over all the comments on our reviews page from 2006, and the repeated comment was bigger and better than last year. I have to say this year we did it again; I'm so excited for you guys to see this new attraction this fall. My advice is get your ticket by phone or online to avoid the long lines. Trust me, once the word gets out about our new amazing show this will be the year that breaks all records.

Not only have we completely built a new show, but we are getting national recognition that will draw haunt fans from around the country to come see us.
